Where the money comes from
Most home-improvement support in the UK comes from one of three places: obligations placed on energy suppliers, programmes run by national governments, or funding held by local authorities. Each has its own rules, and they change over time.
That is why two neighbours can get different answers. Criteria are usually a mix of household circumstances and the property itself.
What is usually assessed
Schemes typically look at who lives in the home, the household's income or benefits, the property's efficiency rating and construction, and which measures are technically suitable.

What happens next
If a scheme looks relevant, your chosen installer will carry out a survey, gather the evidence the funder needs and submit an application. Only the funder can approve it.
