Understanding your EPC rating

January 2026 · 5 min read

What the letter actually measures, why it matters to funders, and how to find yours.

What an EPC tells you

An Energy Performance Certificate rates a property from A to G and lists recommended improvements. Funders often use the band as a starting filter.

It is an assessment of the building, not of how you live in it.

Finding yours

Most properties sold or let in recent years already have one on the national register. If yours is missing or out of date, an assessor can produce a new one.

Initial results are indicative only. Final eligibility and funding are subject to checks by the relevant scheme, authority, funder or installer.
